College History

This college was established in 1954 with the grace of the great visionary Bharathakesari Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan recognizing the need for teacher Education institutions in Kerala to build up a strong foundation for the school education in the State of Kerala. This college is one of the premier institutions in the state of Kerala and has completed 65 years of service to the nation in the field of teacher education. The management of the college, the Nair Service Society, endowed with the task of upliftment of the downtrodden sections of the society is one of the pioneering educational agencies of Kerala State. The mission of the society is the development of the people through education of its individuals. At the beginning, the college was started in a small building in the premises of NSS High School, Perunnai with a strength of 60 students with English, Malayalam, Mathematics, Social Studies, Physical science and Natural science. Later it was shifted to another building and added new courses and enhanced strength of the students. In 2003, the new two storied building was constructed and Optional class rooms were shifted to that building. Later it was extended with the assistance of UGC to make it a more convenient three storied building.

At present, this institution offers B.Ed course in Mathematics, Physical science, Natural science, Social science, Malayalam, English ,and Hindi with a strength of 100 students per year . The institution is recognized as one of the best Colleges of Education in Kerala affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University . The college is recognized by the UGC under section 2(f) and 12 B of its act of 1956. In May 2005 , NAAC peer team visited and assessed the college for accreditation. The college has been re-accredited with B grade by the NAAC in 2016.
