Observation of World Science Day

The Physical Science Association of NSS training college, Changanacherry in collaboration with IQAC have observed World Science Day on 10th November 2022. A one day seminar was organized, followed by a quiz competition for the student teachers of our institute. The theme of the day was “Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development”. The resource person was Mr. Aravind K, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, S B College, Changanacherry.

The objectives of the program were:

  • To strengthen the awareness of the role of science among student teachers for peaceful and sustainable living.
  • To improve access to science and to the benefits of science for sustainable development.
  • To prepare the student teachers of different subjects understand their role in the development of sustainable society.

The gathering was welcomed by Dr. Jayalakshmy R, the Programme Convener and Assistant Professor of Physical Science Education, NSS Training College, Changanacherry. The programme was preceded by Dr. Pradeep Kumar S.L., Principal, NSS Training College, Changanacherry. Dr. Devika R Associate professor, IQAC coordinator felicitated the meeting. The importance of sustainability in day to day life was well portrayed by the resource person. He also emphasized the correlation of science with the society. Student convenor Mincy Liya Ignatious expressed her gratitude to the gathering.

The official meeting was followed by the quiz competition. The session was handled by the quiz masters Anjali S and Vandana Chandran. It was held in three stages:

  • Round 1- Written Preliminary Round.
  • Round 2- Intermediate stage which included picture identification, international summits and conferences and science in everyday life.
  • Round 3- Final Round for identifying the famous scientists.

The prize was distributed by Dr.Sreekala K.L., Assistant professor, NSS Training College, Changanacherry. There were twelve teams, each team comprises of two students, from different optional subjects. The first prize was bagged by Anjana Elza and Richie Alex from English optional. The first runners up were Thasleema T R and Anupama Unnithan from Natural science optional. The second runners up were Arya Jose and Divya P from Mathematical optional. The session was concluded with National Anthem.

The programme as a whole covered a broad spectrum of topics concerning sustainable development in an informative way. The programme effectively conveyed the need to develop scientific temperament among student teachers and thereby met the objectives of the programme in an effective and interactive way.
